This month we've been seeing some of our acne clients have flare ups. And although February is typically a flare up month because of everything that was consumed during the holidays, something just seemed different this time around. And I became curious about the function of other organs and the impact they could be having on acne.
When acne clears for a bit with an elimination diet and then comes back or skincare works for a bit and then it comes back, it's most likely an internal organ that's needing your attention and the skin is reflecting that. So when the root cause of acne is not addressed it will keep coming back.
There is correlation with liver and acne because your liver is what will flush out toxins. This starts with lymphatic drainage. If your body can't flow that lymph back to get filtered out by the liver those toxins will start to show up on your skin. In traditional Chinese medicine its thought that high cortisol (stress hormone) will cause stagnant liver energy. Liver qi stagnation is often associated with: frustration, anger, resentment, and suppressed emotions can disrupt the liver's function.
Symptoms can include:
Irritability, mood swings, and emotional volatility.
Feelings of frustration, anger, or resentment.
Chest tightness or discomfort.
Abdominal bloating or distension.
Frequent sighing.
Headaches.
Menstrual irregularities (PMS, painful periods).
Digestive issues like IBS.
You can improve the function of the liver by incorporating more leafy greens and ginger as well as avoiding fried and processed foods. As well as refined sugars because they can feed the yeast in the intestines not only causing gut issues but also affect the liver. Magnesium and Vitamin D are essential for liver function. Here are a few other recommendations that can help.
Organic Olivia- Liver Juice
Natures Sunshine Yeast/Fungal Detox
